Clomid Dosage If you’re going to put it into your body from medicine to hormones or in this case a SERM you are going to want to know the proper dose; after all, without this information it’s unlikely you’re going to be able to use it correctly. Like many things a Clomid dosage can vary quite dramatically but one thing is for certain the average Clomid dosage among many performance enhancers is far too low. It is very common to see a Clomid dosage of 50mg per day for Post Cycle therapy (PCT) purposes and while there is a use for this dose during PCT it should be noted, 50mg of this SERM is about the equivalent of 10mg of Nolvadex.

Proper Clomid Dosage – PCT: Most who supplement with this SERM will be best served at beginning at 150mg per day for at least a couple weeks and then slowly tapering down. While a 150mg per day Clomid dosage can be very effective there are those who are going to need a little more but we can safely say a dosing plan that begins lower than this after any serious anabolic steroid cycle really isn’t going to do much and will be worth very little.

Proper Clomid Dosage – On Cycle: Some performance enhancing athletes will supplement with Clomid during their actual anabolic steroid cycle itself in an effort to stave off Gynecomastia. Gynecomastia occurs due to the presence of estrogen in the body by-which it then binds to the receptors in the chest producing male breast enlargement. While it can be efficient many often simply use Nolvadex for this purpose but neither SERM will provide 100% guaranteed satisfaction in this regard. In many cases only aromatase inhibitors will do but for some a good SERM can be useful. For this purpose a solid Clomid dosage of approximately 50mg per day should suffice but again, Nolvadex has been proven to be slightly more effective and aromatase inhibitors such as Arimidex and Letrozole even more so.

Regimen for Clomid Use

1. Clomid is initiated at the dose of 50 mg daily for 5 days, and the dose is increased if ovulation does not occur. Clomiphene is given orally, starting on cycle day 3, 4, or 5 for 5 days (cycle days 3-7; 4-8; or 5-9), where day 1 is the onset of menstrual flow. When Clomiphene therapy alone does not induce ovulation, the addition of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), 10,000 IU, given IM on one of cycle days 14 to 18, may compensate for a defective estrogen-positive feedback mechanism for induction of the LH surge.

2. If the patient does not ovulate on one 50 mg Clomid tablet/day, the dose is modified sequentially as follows until ovulation is confirmed: Clomid 100 mg x 5 days, Clomid 100 mg x 5 days + hCG, Clomid 150 mg x 5 days, Clomid 150 mg x 5 days + hCG, then, Clomid 200 mg x 5 days + hCG. If the patient fails to ovulate at this dose of Clomid, we declare the situation a Clomid failure.

3. The successful use of Clomid requires monitoring of induced cycles. If carefully monitored cycles indicate ovulation, the patient is instructed to use the same dosage of medication in her upcoming cycle.

Clomiphene Citrate with Estrogen Supplementation

Clomiphene citrate is an oral fertility medication.  It can be used to induce ovulation in women who don’t ovulate, or to produce multiple eggs in women who already ovulate on their own.  It is one of the safest, least expensive and most widely used fertility drugs in the United States.  Recent evidence suggests that adding an estrogen supplement increases the pregnancy rate.  Estradiol is a natural estrogen and has few side effects when used in short episodes; it should not be used if you are a heavy smoker or have a history of blood clots, heart attack or stroke.

You will take two tablets of clomiphene citrate daily, starting on Cycle Day 3 and ending on Cycle Day 7. You will then use one estrogen pill inserted vaginally on Cycle Days 8 through 12.

An ultrasound is required during your first treatment cycle to check the effectiveness of the medications.  It is also used to time an insemination (IUI). You will need to call the office to schedule the sonogram for cycle day 12.  Once the follicles have reached the size of 18mm or greater, you will be given an injection of hCG to trigger ovulation and the IUI will be scheduled the following day.  Keep in mind 2-3 days of abstinence is recommended (but not longer than 1 week).

If you are timing the IUI by ovulation predictor kit, you should start checking your urine early in the morning with the kit on Cycle Day 11.  Most women will have a positive test around Cycle Day 13 or 14.  Once the test is positive, call the clinic to schedule the IUI.  Semen collection is scheduled in the clinic the following day and the IUI is usually performed approximately 1 - 2 hours later. If you have a positive surge on a weekend you will need to leave a message early in the morning no later than 9:00 am so that we may call you back to schedule your IUI for the following day.  You may collect the specimen at home if you live less than 60 minutes from the office and have a sterile container that we have provided for you.  If your test has not turned positive by Cycle Day 15, call the clinic for assistance.

There is a 5-10% risk of twins with the use of clomiphene citrate; the risk of triplets or higher order pregnancies is <1%.  Side effects include hot flashes, bloating, breast tenderness, stomach upset, visual changes and headaches.  Visual changes or headaches that do not respond to Tylenol or aspirin should be reported immediately.  Ovarian cysts can appear with the use of clomiphene citrate, which may cause pelvic pressure or pain with intercourse or exertion.  They are usually self-limited and resolve without any further treatment except withholding the next cycle of clomiphene.
